What is Apple CarPlay and how does Apple CarPlay work?

So you want to know a little bit more about audio for cars huh? Don’t worry, we’re going to walk you through the basics.

We’re all addicted to our mobile phones, it's true - We’re on them when we’re working, eating, and even when we’re driving. However, considering the illegality of this action, we as a society (mostly Apple) have come up with a solution.

Smartphones are now able to be accessed through car radios. Playing music or using navigation has now become both simple and safe - Thanks to Apple Carplay.

WHAT IS APPLE CARPLAY?

Here to make your life a lot easier and audio for cars a little bit simpler, CarPlay is Apple's new way to ride smarter from start to finish. You can now connect your phone to your car, allowing you to access smart phone applications from your car stereo. Most cars may have an inbuilt system that gives you a simplified, basic version of what you could do on your smartphone but instead you can now do it safely and legally through your car's interface.

HOW TO START YOUR APPLE CARPLAY

CarPlay requires two things; a supported vehicle, and a mobile device that's either an iPhone 5 or higher. CarPlay also uses Siri to work, so make sure you enable her through the settings to start using voice commands. 

So how do we actually get CarPlay to work? Simply start your car and use a cable to connect your phone to the USB port in your car. Click the CarPlay icon to start using. 

If you have a car that supports wireless CarPlay, make sure that your stereo is in wireless or Bluetooth mode. To start, simply press and hold the voice command button seen on your steering wheel.  

Use your iPhone and:
Step 1) Go to Settings
Step 2) Press General
Step 3) Press CarPlay, select ‘available cars’ and choose your car to start using.
